The author proposes that Korean people is facing major crisis in child rearing and parenting on the bases of research and clinical data, such as increase in unwanted rregnancy, avoidanca of having children, child abuse and neglect, abandoned children and problems of rearing and discipline methods. Etiologically, the nuclearization of the family, the decrease in the number of children, the sharp increase of divorce rate, the phenomenal rise of working mothers and the lack of appropriate care facility for the children of working mothers, the dramatic change in the role and power balance between the husband and wife, and the drastic changes in their system toward more individualistic, competitive self-autualizing goals in life are dis cussed, as well as many social changes in political, economical and family domains. Somes recommendations to overcome the crisis are made.
